Kwikset 5333 Lockset Spindle and Spring

This worked! I have a door thats 2" 1/4 inches thick and so many lock sets have screws or spindles that wont reach the other side. For the 917 Kwikset auto door lever it comes with a short half circle spindle thats basically 9/16 in diameter and is not long enough. I bought this 5333 spindle and spring and took it apart and cut the half circle spindle 3" 3/16 inches and it worked! I got some longer screws from hardware store and it all worked. Kwikset makes the smaller flat spindle and lock for thicker doors but not half circle spindles so this is the part you need to get thicker doors to accept lock sets that wont install due to thickness of door that call for half circle spindles.

Perfect metal replacement for the plastic garbage spindles that now come with the Kwikset locks.

The spindle end had broken and would no longer unlock. I had to order the set as the spindle was not sold separately. Did not want to leave an old doing with a new spindle so I replaced the entire set instead of just the spindle. As an amateur I had trouble setting the spring casing in the door handle by bending the tips over and rivet rounding the ends with a pinch and small hammer. I probably did it the hard way. It was successful and the lock works like it should now.
